Little Nali is a pointed dog! I took her out to a local Tampa show, she she won over one other bitch, which is enough to give her a point! This was her first show since December (and since the last post), so her body has changed quite a bit. Her coat looks the best it ever has, as does her topline and tuck, and I just know it's going to get even better as she continues to age! |
This show was also my first time delving into real show grooming. I got a reserved grooming spot, dragged in all of my supplies including the forced-air dryer, grooming table, crate, and a pile of hair products that are far more expensive than anything I have ever put in my own hair. But it was worth it, because look how fluffy she is! |
For those of you who don't quite know how shows work, Nali needs 10 points from AKC conformation shows in order to earn a champion title. For a Siberian husky in my region, she only has to beat one other dog to get a point, four dogs to get two points, and so on. This is all set by the AKC point schedule. There are some other technicalities built in there, but I'll leave it at this for now. |
Our biggest hurdle now is finding competition. All of the Florida shows tend to have less than five huskies, and only one or two is the norm. Thankfully every December the AKC championships are in Orlando, so we'll be there, but now I'm starting to look into Atlanta shows. Who knew there were so many huskies in Georgia? I certainly didn't. Until then we have another break until the fall, and then more Florida shows. Wish us luck! I'll update this if she pulls in any more wins! |
