A lot has happened for little Nali in the last month! She's had many new adventures outside and in classes. She has also obtained her first title! Nali passed her AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy exam which means she's an ace at basic obedience! Her evaluator for the exam even commented that she was doing fantastic and was a very impressive puppy, and she said she did not say that about many puppies! I've sent away the necessary paperwork from the exam, and Nali will be obtaining her medal and certificate from the AKC soon! | Denali also had her first trip to the beach. She seemed to have a real affinity for water, so we thought we would take her out to our local dog beach and see if she wanted to play in the waves, and she did! She was acting like the labs and trying to swim out to sea. We purposefully kept her only in the very shallows, otherwise I'm sure she just would have dove right in. All of the shots from the beach can be found in the gallery! Nali has also been in conformation classes for the last month. Her stack is coming along nicely, and right now the hardest thing is still trying to keep her from sitting in the right. I never actually taught her to sit, but she somehow picked it up anyway and would much rather sit or even lay down and sleep in the ring than stand and pose. But who can blame her? Nali will continue with her conformation classes weekly, and I hope to take her out to her first show in July when she'll be just under 7 months. Until then wish me and Nali luck with learning the art of conformation! |

Welcome home, Nali! Today I acquired my first ever show dog, Tiji's Expedition Denali! Nali flew in today from her Michigan home with Tiji Kennels, and is all ready owning the place. This blog will follow Nali's adventures through conformation training and showing, with lots of other fun stuff along the way! Nali immediately picked out our most worn-out chewed-up toy in the house and claimed it as her own. She's been carrying it around all night and snuggling with it in her crate. We have tons of new toys just for her, but no, she wants the slobbery squirrel with holes in it. Nali is a show dog, with plenty of champions in her pedigree to prove it. This means she and I will be competing in AKC conformation events throughout Florida and maybe further. But, despite being destined for the show ring, huskies bred to standard are still meant to pull! Therefore, with any luck, I'll be teaching Nali some urban mushing. So be prepared for future GoPro videos of Nali pulling me around town with fun activities like bikejoring (go ahead and google it). All of that fun stuff will be posted here as well, so you won't miss out! Day one went well. She has a ton of energy, but has finally crashed and is sleeping off a long day of travel. Zander (my German shepherd) seems confused by her presence. She's been jumping all over him, and he's just not sure what to make of it yet. She hasn't meet the cats yet since I don't want to overwhelm her all at once, but I'm hoping to catch some cute pictures of them together while they're all the same size once they meet (I'm crossing my fingers that they all get along). Wish me luck with this ball of adorable energy, and I'll keep you posted! |
